Facial recognition and AI photo tagging
Campfront can read your photos for you. AI tagging describes what's in each picture, and facial recognition finds the campers and staff in them. This article covers both, how they're billed, and how to check the results. It's written for admins who manage the media library.
AI tagging
Turn on AI tagging in your media library settings and Campfront looks at each photo you upload, adding keyword tags and a short summary. Tags power search and make a big library easy to sort through.
AI tagging is free and doesn't identify anyone by name. You can add or remove tags on any photo yourself, and refresh a photo's tags or summary whenever you like.
Facial recognition
Facial recognition goes a step further and identifies the campers and staff in your photos, so a family filtering to their own child sees the right pictures right away. To use it you'll need two things.
An active Campfront subscription. Facial recognition isn't available until you've set up billing
Camper facial recognition, Staff facial recognition, or both, switched on in settings
Campfront charges a small fee for each camper and staff member it identifies, shown next to each switch. Faces are matched against camper and staff profile photos, so keeping those up to date gives you better results.
If the facial recognition switches are greyed out, your camp needs billing set up first.
You'll see a Set up billing button on the settings screen.
Confirming who's who
If Campfront is low in confidence, it will ask you to confirm the camper or staff member is accurate. Open a photo to see who Campfront thinks is in it, then confirm the matches that are right and remove the ones that aren't. The matches you keep are what families and staff filter by when they view their own photos, so removing a wrong match takes that photo out of their view.
Charging families and staff
You can pass the cost of facial recognition on to families and staff. Turn on Charge for facial recognition and set the prices.
Camper price - what families pay
Staff price - what staff pay
Tax rate - added if it applies to you
Families and staff who want facial recognition opt in and pay during enrollment. Campfront takes a revenue share from each sale, shown on the settings screen. If you'd rather offer it for free, leave charging off. Campfront still bills your camp its per-person fee.
Adding people after the fact
When a new camper or staff member opts in later, Campfront looks back through your existing photos and matches faces it had already found. Their photos show up without you re-uploading anything.
